MOSF 17.2: THE EXILES: The tank man or the tank?

Hi all,

I've been thinking a lot about hope this month - hope as a combination of goals, willpower, agency, and pathways, an active principle we must cultivate in order to find our true wholeness, and feel our way into interdependence. Hope for me extends far beyond my own individual success, of course, but also in the triumph of moral and inclusive conscience. How ironic that power structures effectively act as barriers to hope, when power is constructed as wealth and advantage for the dominant group.

That's why I'm voting NO on the SF School Board Recall. There is legitimate and understandable frustration about school closures - but clearly this is not an SF problem. Omicron has caused a wave of school closures across the country. By my read, our school board paid attention to the concerns of BIPOC parents, who were less likely to want to return to in-person last year, for a variety of reasons I touch on in this article. I hope you'll join me in voting NO! If you disagree, please feel free to reach out.

MOSF 17.1: SF School Board Recall is a Cover for Racism and Elitism. Vote No!

And I just saw THE EXILES about filmmaker Christine Choy and her intersection with exiles from the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4, 1989. There are striking parallels between the CCP and the GOP in terms of erasing history and memory. Remembering is an act of radical conscience. Hope comes from a belief in the future, with full knowledge of the past. This doc goes far on that score.
